Cock O' Barton

Rated 9.1 in 789 reviews. 14 rooms.

As to the provenance of the Cock O'Barton, old wives tales and local myths abound, it is commonly thought that the pub's name came from its association with a nearby cock fighting location. Although the pub did play some part in this activity, we think the name came from an earlier time.
The area we call 'Barton' was named after a knight in the 900's who was rewarded for his services with land at the edge of the Carden Estate. During the age of horse drawn transport, Barton became a convenient resting point on the Chester-Shrewsbury-London route. The village prospered thanks to the increased traffic from coaches, farmers and travellers.
You can expect a warm welcome whether you are popping in for a drink or joining us for a relaxing meal in the restaurant. Our bar is bursting with fantastic beers, lagers and cask ales whilst the wine list offers a cheeky bottle to match all tastes and complement our dishes.
The menu is constantly updated with dishes to tempt your taste buds and combine many talents of local suppliers to ensure we use the freshest and tastiest ingredients and now he have bedrooms for you to rest your head whether relaxing, on business or attending a wedding!
